Hi! I’m AnneMarie.
DNP, FNP-BC, APRN, CDCES, & CMO of Above Diabetes
Diabetes Family Nurse Practitioner
I’m a Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in type 1, type 2, gestational diabetes, and prediabetes. I prescribe and manage insulin pumps, order and interpret diabetes blood work, prescribe and adjust diabetes medications, and create individualized exercise and nutrition plans. I especially enjoy helping women with type 1 diabetes manage glucose levels during preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was seven years old. I remember lying in the hospital bed, feeling scared and not understanding why I was there and why I had been so sick. A diabetes specialist visited my parents and me in the hospital and taught me what it meant to have diabetes. Her main emphasis was that everything would be OK and that I would be able to take great care of myself and still live a normal, healthy life. That stuck with me, and from then on I knew I wanted to be a diabetes specialist to help people with diabetes understand their condition well enough to live a full and productive life despite having diabetes.
I graduated from the University of Utah with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. I have also been involved on the local and national levels of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES). In 2022, I was awarded the ADCES Utah “Diabetes Educator of the Year” award. I also have four children who keep my husband and me busy.
While diabetes can’t be controlled (it has a mind of its own sometimes), it can be managed, and I truly love helping people learn how to best manage their diabetes.
