This Diabetes-Friendly High Protein Low Carb Smoothie is a staple in my life and so excited to share.
I have had diabetes since 1995 and I use this smoothie most mornings and sometimes for an awesome (and filling) treat. It’s high protein, high fiber, low in net carbs, and very satisfying. I love this after a good High-Intensity workout to boost my energy and improve recovery. The high protein and high fiber allow for me stable blood sugar and are very satisfying. And it’s SO fast. Takes me maybe 3 minutes.
High Fiber Berries Galore:
This Diabetes-Friendly High Protein & High Fiber Low Carb Smoothie features a symphony of frozen mixed berries, chosen for their rich antioxidants and natural sweetness. These berries not only add vibrancy to your glass but also contribute essential vitamins to support your overall well-being.
High Protein Powerhouse:
I’ve amped up the protein game by incorporating a scoop of your preferred protein powder. I always love chocolate, but you can choose any protein powder of your liking. While there are healthier options with protein powder. I like to use the ones that have limited additives and do not use artificial sweeteners (list below).
- Be Well by Kelly – Chocolate Protein Powder (beef-protein)
- KOS Chocolate Protein Powder (plant-based)
- Collage Protein Powder (for no sweeteners)
- Orgain Chocolate Protein Powder (plant-based)
PBfit Magic:
Enter PBfit, the secret ingredient. Two tablespoons of this powdered peanut butter elevate the smoothie with a delightful nutty undertone. If you don’t have PB fit, regular peanut butter (or almond butter) is great. You can use any PB flour or nut butter, but make sure that the ingredients just list the nut and maybe some salt. If it needs additional sweetness, you can add a touch of raw honey.
Beyond the taste, PBfit contributes to additional protein content, adding a creamy texture that makes every sip a pleasurable experience.
Unsweetened Almond Milk Elegance:
I opted for unsweetened almond milk to keep the sugar content in check. This not only maintains the smoothie’s creamy consistency but also adds a touch of nuttiness, complementing the overall flavor profile.
Diabetes-Friendly Smoothie:
Designed with diabetes in mind, this Diabetes-Friendly High Protein & High Fiber Low Carb Smoothie boasts low total carbs, making it an excellent choice for those keeping a close eye on their carbohydrate intake. The net carb count remains minimal, allowing you to relish the sweetness without worrying about a sugar spike.
High-Fiber and High Protein-Centered Meals:
It’s worth mentioning that berries and protein-centered meals play a significant role in a diabetes-friendly meal plan. Berries offer antioxidants and essential nutrients, while protein helps maintain stable blood sugar levels and promotes satiety.
Wholesome and Quick:
Crafting this diabetic-friendly delight is a breeze. Toss the frozen berries, protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, and PBfit into a blender. A quick blend results in a velvety smooth concoction ready to be poured into your glass.
